I despair with Seymour - but I also despair re Labour in not aggressively targeting Seymour - exposing him for what he is - the hand of the extreme right Atlas Network, for not exposing his game plan as it unfolds, and for not developing rhetoric for countering his rhetoric re framing of bills! Has the left not got the smarts and ability to counter Seymour’s rhetoric? Essentially, I think, that somewhat disconcertingly he’s getting a free ride without much contest from the Labour Opposition 😢
You identify the need to frame the message in a manner a reasonable person, if s/he has the time and energy to be bothered, can accept. ACT were getting away with building a solid frame until TPM refused to play the game by the usual rules. The TPM mana trumps ACT and in a poll today I see ACT are down and TPM are up. Labour has to do more and a name change to say Kiwi First or FUSA are suggested 🤔
Te Pati Maori have strength and courage and as we saw with Hana, the Haka and the powerful challenge to Seymour they are prepared to confront Seymour and frighten him and disable him.
Under Seymour it’s the well resourced elites against the rest of us. They want to shutdown democracy, control us, privatise our assets, increase their wealth and make us poor tenants in our own Country. If you want an example - look at the US, the scenario has already played out, as well as the dysfunctionality.
Essential a well resourced war is being enacted upon us. The elites collaborate, strategise and resource their war and implement it through the Govt and media.
If we want to win then a good chunk of this country has to collaborate, strategise and resource the battles to win with a strong United political wing leading the charge smartly and aggressively - the Te Pati Maori, the Greens and Labour framing the messaging for the reasonable person so more people come on board to fight!
Tika. A huge hurdle is now the hiding of online information being buried beneath commercial spin and algorithm being manipulated by platform owners. Sadly I expect Substack and BlueBird to follow
Labour are terrified of re-opening the ‘direct action’ can of worms lest they themselves should become beholden to the ‘will of the people’. It’s taken them a long time to transform themselves from ‘voice of the worker’ to the party of benign(ish) administrative solutions- they will not prejudice that role lightly. Unlike TPM they probably don’t even have the grassroots mechanisms to do so.
It’s a shame Mana collapsed the way it did, they could have been Labour’s ‘drive left’ vehicle in the same way as ACT is the ‘drive right vehicle for the more radical schemes of National that the more traditional Nat voter might find unsavoury. I don’t think TPM can ultimately fill that role- they’re too conscious of their high standing with the Iwi incorporations, professionals and public service managers- not ‘proletarian’ enough.
National electorate MPs and their electoral chairs and volunteerswork work extremely hard on grassroot support on the Eastcoast. Charities like Harold the Giraffe, Hospice support and private hospital fund raising. Even garage sales . ..
😵💫👍🏾Yes, he is not quite the bumbling unsophisticated doofus he cultivated as an image eh? Sadly for him there are photos of him at the top table of Atlas event(s) - they should be shared widely 🧐
More imperative than ever we make this a 1-term dictatorship-by-stealth⁉️
The legislative shocks we’ve already seen pale before the next horror, about to be unleashed. Every thinking person must urgently educate themself about the proposed Regulatory Standards Ministry, with the over-reaching power grab by David Seymour.
Seymour appears to be co-opting some definitions. I suggest an approach that might effectively counter his type of approach. That would be to a take a long term view for any and all political changes.
Beginning with:
Have you thought this all through, including the possibility of unintended consequences?
Your proposed change/law/policy has been successfully implemented and we are three years down track. You are very happy. Tell us what we can see is happening in the real world. Which groups benefit most? Which benefit least? How exactly does this situation differ from that of 2024?
What needs to happen to ensure success?
I'm sure there are a few more questions that could be added to make up a standard filter. This could be applied to just about anything.
Additionally, gaining early pre-public access to proposed regulations provides them with some clear air and a runway to start framing messaging and pre-shaping debate and discussion about he proposed changes.

And then that reader must react.
Yep. I think this is the Trojan horse. There’s a reason businesses have been trying to get this passed for over 20 years.
Thank you for highlighting this. The bland title hides the sinister detail. More deceit and obfuscation!

I saw the photos of him at the table you and others put out; he needs to be hounded with this. I put in a submission on this act.
That the track national wanted us to get back on
